CREDC Fundraising Goal Set at $4 Million
HARRISBURG (March 20, 2008 ) -- Jennifer Delaye, owner of JDK Catering, Inc. and Bub Manning, a Principal with The Quandel Group, Inc. will lead the effort for the Capital Region Economic Development Corporation (CREDC), the economic development arm of the Harrisburg Regional Chamber, in a fundraising drive to support regional initiatives and operations for the years 2009 to 2012. The goal for the campaign is $4 Million. The monies raised will be used to support the following:
- The Murata Business Center, the small business incubator located in Carlisle
- The Business Diversity Initiative, designed to promote the business case for business diversity, as well as help women and minority-owned businesses grow and succeed
- Marketing of the Harrisburg Region and the Chamber & CREDC at targeted trade shows and direct contact with targeted business sectors
- Organizational operations and growing organizational capacity
- Match for State programs such as the Enterprise Zones and Keystone Innovation Zone
- Creation of a CREDC Endowment, to generate income for the long term sustainability of the organization
"With 36 years of history in central Pennsylvania, I believe strongly in what CREDC does for the region and I have seen, first hand, the effectiveness and improvement of the organization over the past seven years," said Manning. "I have served as Chair of the Board and am serving as Chair of Loan Review Committee and I have had the opportunity to hear, first hand, the stories and see the successes of businesses we have helped.
CREDC repeatedly makes the case for support by actions, not by words. While our goal is
aggressive this year, it is well within reach and consistent with other
similar metropolitan areas throughout the United States. The staff,
board and general membership are doing far more than most people
realize to make central Pennsylvania the kind of place that retains and
attracts businesses and residents alike."
Delaye added, "I have been a client of CREDC twice, which has allowed me to grow my business, but I also benefit from the Business Seminars, Chamber Business Women and the sound counsel from either CREDC staff or referrals they recommend. Like Bub, I believe in what CREDC does and feel Cumberland, Dauphin and Perry Counties are fortunate to have an organization like CREDC. I believe that every minute spent on reaching out to area businesses in order to raise money for CREDC is, dollar for dollar, a sound investment of my time. The time spent is an invaluable investment in our region's economic development and greatly affects the pulse of the business climate in South Central PA."
CREDC provides low interest loans to businesses, does real estate development in underserved areas such as the City of Harrisburg, Steelton Borough, Carlisle and rural parts of the region, as well as provides additional services to women and minority-owned businesses as part of a larger Business Diversity initiative started in 2004. Since 2001, CREDC has helped regional businesses create nearly 10,000 jobs with a total economic impact of nearly $200 million in grants, loans, bank financing and private equity.
CREDC does generate fees from some of its activities, but relies on contributions from the private and public sector to maintain operations. Nearly 45% of CREDC's budget is contributions. Of those contributions, approximately 12% are public sector contributions and the remaining 88% are private sector contributions. Since 1984, CREDC has raised money in four-year cycles to support operations over the next four year period. Financial contributions come as one time gifts or a pledge is made that includes payments over the four-year period.
The Capital Region Economic Development Corporation (CREDC) is the economic development arm of the Harrisburg Regional Chamber serving Cumberland, Dauphin and Perry Counties. CREDC's mission is to be a catalyst for business and job retention, expansion, the creation of new businesses and new jobs and attracting jobs to our region. To fulfill that mission, CREDC owns and operates the Murata Business Center in Carlisle, a small business incubator as well as maintains staff in Carlisle and Harrisburg to assist businesses with state grants, government loan packaging, referral services and business seminars.
